Whole-House Carbon Filtration in Irving

When the shower smells of chlorine and nobody in the family wants to drink from the tap, one carbon system on the main line can clear that up for every faucet in your home. We size it so you get the full life out of the media before it needs changing.

How Carbon Treats Water for the Whole House

Your utility adds a disinfectant so water stays safe in the pipes between the treatment plant and your home. It works well, and it is also the flavor in your glass and the smell in a steamy bathroom. Activated carbon holds onto that disinfectant as water passes through, along with many of the compounds behind off tastes and odors.

We tie the system into your main supply line before it branches off to the rest of the house, so every shower, faucet and appliance gets filtered water. In most houses that point sits in the garage or beside an exterior wall. Many utilities in the area use chloramine rather than plain chlorine, and standard carbon struggles with chloramine. We find out which one your water carries and pick the media to suit it.

The lowest sticker price rarely turns out to be the lowest cost of owning a system. Before you decide, we lay out the up-front cost, how long the media should last for your household and what yearly upkeep will look like.

What Comes With Your Install

A quick look at your water first

We confirm the disinfectant type and check for sediment or iron that would clog carbon early. If something else needs attention, we say so and point you to water testing before you spend money.

Media matched to your water

Catalytic carbon for chloramine, standard activated carbon for chlorine. The right media is what keeps the system working for years instead of months.

A sediment prefilter

A simple cartridge ahead of the carbon tank catches grit so the carbon spends its life on taste and odor.

Bypass valve and tidy tie-in

With a bypass valve in place, you can route water around the system during service and still have water in the house. We make a clean cut into the line, lay down floor protection and take the packaging with us.

A written upkeep plan

You get a simple schedule for prefilter changes and when to expect the carbon to need replacing, so there are no surprises later.

Signs Whole-House Filtration Makes Sense

Pool smell in the shower
Hot water releases chlorine and chloramine into the air, so the smell is strongest in the bathroom. A point-of-use filter at the kitchen sink will not help there.
You buy bottled water for taste
If the water is fine on paper but nobody wants to drink it, carbon often solves the taste problem for far less than years of bottles.
Dry skin or brittle hair after bathing
Many people notice softer-feeling water once the disinfectant is removed. It is a comfort benefit, not a medical one, but it is a common reason people call.
Pitcher and fridge filters keep running out
Small filters work, but changing them constantly adds up. One system on the main line can replace several of them.

How the Job Goes

  1. 1

    Phone conversation

We ask what bothers you about your water, how many people live in your home and where the main line comes in. That is usually enough to know if carbon fits.

  2. 2

    Visit and estimate

We look at the plumbing, confirm the disinfectant and give you a written estimate that lists the system, the install and the expected upkeep cost.

  3. 3

    Install day

Expect the work to fill part of a day, not all of it. We shut off the water only while we cut into the main line, then flush the new carbon until the water runs clear before we pack up.

  4. 4

    Walkthrough

We show you the bypass valve, the prefilter and how to tell when service is due. If a plumbing permit is required for the tie-in, we handle it.

What Moves the Price

We give you a written estimate after we see the setup, with the system and the labor listed separately. We also show the expected yearly upkeep, because that number matters as much as the first one.

Household size and water use
More people and more bathrooms mean a larger tank. A properly sized tank costs more at first but goes much longer between media changes.
Chlorine or chloramine
Catalytic carbon for chloramine costs more than standard carbon. Using the cheaper media on chloramine water just means replacing it sooner.
Tank or cartridge system
Cartridge housings are cheaper to buy but need frequent changes. Tank systems cost more up front and need far less attention year to year.
Plumbing access
An easy garage tie-in is straightforward. A main line in a tight spot, or one that needs rerouting, adds labor.

Questions About Whole-House Carbon Filtration

How long does the carbon last?
It depends on tank size, your water use and the disinfectant level. A tank system sized for your household typically runs several years between media changes, while cartridge systems need changes in months. We give you an estimate for your home before you buy.
Will it lower my water pressure?
If the system is sized for the flow your home actually uses, you should not feel a difference at the shower. Weak pressure after filtration usually traces back to a unit that is too small or a prefilter that has clogged. That is why we size from your bathroom count and include a prefilter that is easy to change.
Do I still need a reverse osmosis system?
Not always. Carbon handles taste and odor for the whole house. If you want extra treatment for drinking and cooking water, under-sink reverse osmosis is a good addition at the kitchen sink.
Does carbon soften water?
No. Carbon does not remove the minerals that cause hardness. If scale is a concern, we test first and talk about water softeners only if the results support one.
Who takes care of maintenance?
You can change the prefilter yourself in a few minutes. If you would rather not, our filter replacement and maintenance service can keep the whole system on schedule.
